Before his exile from Russia, Trotsky owned and doted upon a heavy draft horse (also named Trotsky) whom he believed to be the equine embodiment of the Revolution. Sadly, Trotsky* was killed by a carrot to the mane by an Andalusian named Ramón Mer-canter.
